Charging of electric and hybrid cars from parking space power poles is prohibited

Electric and hybrid cars are becoming increasingly common, so it’s time to remind everyone that charging these vehicles from the power poles in the housing company’s parking spaces is strictly prohibited. The power poles in the parking area of As. Oy Yläkelo can only be used for block heaters or interior space heaters of cars.

Recently, it has come to our attention that electric and hybrid cars have been charged from the heating poles in Yläkelo’s parking lot. The property manager has received several reports of misuse during the summer. We have the registration numbers of the cars involved.

Our housing company’s electrical network and power poles were not designed and sized for electric vehicle charging. Our power poles are also old and do not have load balancing automation. In the worst case, misuse could pose a safety risk.

Charging an electric or hybrid car is safest at a dedicated charging station (e.g., shopping centers).

Our heating poles also do not have meters to measure and bill electricity consumption during the charging time. It goes without saying that the housing company should not cover the cost of electricity used for driving on behalf of the residents!

If there are further instances of misuse in the future, the parking space may be revoked from the resident.
